Black River Sound & DJ was founded in August of 2022 by our owner, Mikey Criss. Mikey is a proud resident of Lorain, OH
and named the business after the
Black River that flows through mutliple areas in Lorain County

allow me to introduce myself
My name is mikey criss
I began doing DJ and MC work back in 2011. It all started when I bought my first PA speaker and microphone for a band I was the lead singer in. Shortly after we broke up, I held on to the equipment to use for music at family parties and hosting karaoke nights at my house. My first unofficial DJ gig was my little sister's sweet 16. I found that I really enjoyed it and would later occasionally DJ /MC birthday parties and weddings for friends and family.
Fast forward to 2019, I began a career in car sales which taught me how to truly have a conversation with other people and really listen to what they're saying. The experience I gained helped me develop professionalism and blend it with my natural quirky personality. My last unofficial gig was my cousin's wedding in July of 2022, and that's when I knew I wanted to start a legitimate DJ and MC business.
One month later, Black River Sound & DJ was born.
IN LOVING MEMORY
My grandfather, Larry Peyton, was my biggest supporter of my DJ work. He was in attendance of just about every family event that I would DJ for. He would always approach me and request old country songs that absolutely nobody in the room knew, but he was the well respected leader of our family and everyone joined him on the dance floor anyway. Sometimes he would even hang out with me at my DJ table. My grandfather unfortunately never got to see Black River Sound & DJ come to fruition as he sadly passed away on the exact day my first professional gig was scheduled, August 12th, 2022.
